The annual SC Magazine Awards honor companies and individuals who help fend off Information Technology (IT) security threats.
“Finalists in this year’s SC Awards represent a cross-section of the security industry’s best-in-class,” said SC Magazine Editor-in-Chief Illena Armstrong. “Our readers recognize that these companies are making today’s businesses more secure.”
McQuaid was the driving force behind Parkview's movement to develop a fully integrated and secure medical records system.
“What we accomplished will be the required standard for all hospitals in 2015,” said Lewis. “We’re way ahead of the curve.”
Nomination papers for McQuaid, submitted by Imprivata, Inc., an employee access management company, read, in part, “McQuaid’s goal was to form a team that had exceptional clinical strength and a can-do approach to implementing a healthcare information system.”
“McQuaid gained the support of Parkview’s executives and physicians in implementing a single sign-on and strong authentication solution,” Imprivata wrote, “that helped the hospital achieve HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 Status for Electronic Medical Records’ Adoption – the gold standard in the industry that fewer than one percent of North American hospitals have earned.”
“He has earned Parkview the reputation as a premier site for state-of-the-art IT technologies and practices. These resulted in cost savings, increased productivity, improved security and superior patient care,” according to the nomination.
Parkview is on track to qualify for federal funding set aside in the U.S. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for meaningful use of IT technology in the years 2011 – 2015, Lewis said. SC Magazine received 650 nominations among 31 categories. Winners will be announced March 2 in San Francisco.
McQuaid, a Maine native, is being measured against four other nominees, including Dave Cullinane from Ebay and Mark Weatherford from the State of California.
