Pastoral Care
A Mission of Health and Healing
A hospital stay can be a frightening, anxious, and sometimes lonely experience. Parkview Adventist Medical Center knows that spiritual care can be an important part of the healing process. Therefore, members of the Department of Spiritual Care are available to you and your loved ones 24-hours a day, seven days a week. We also offer weekday morning prayer at 8:30am, in the Hospital chapel.

Why call a Chaplain?
Chaplains are health care professionals who provide spiritual and pastoral care to help you cope with what is going on in your life. Maybe you are seeking prayer, a ritual, a sacrament, or a connection to your own religious community. Or you may just need someone to listen, and let you know you're not alone. A friend or family member can also request a visit from the chaplain.
Our chaplains are available to offer support to persons of all religious backgrounds and can help you contact your own clergy or spiritual advisor, and assist them when they arrive. Our chaplains encourage use of an individual's spiritual beliefs and resources in the midst of crisis and illness.
If you would like us to pray for you, we have a prayer request book in our chapel and also take requests by email.
Be a Volunteer Chaplain
Individuals who are active in local denominational or faith groups may apply for training and credentialing as a volunteer hospital chaplain. Contact the department for more information.
Spiritual Care and Treatment
Spiritual Care is fully integrated into the treatment program at Parkview
- Chaplains receive referrals from physicians and any member of the hospital's staff.
- Chaplains participate regularly in interdisciplinary care meetings and serve as a patient's advocate.
Special Intercessory Prayer for those in special need:
Parkview offers a special service of prayer that gathers a patient's family and support system, along with a chaplain and staff, to pray together at a patient's bedside. This service follows the Biblical instruction in James 5 using oil as a symbol of God's healing Spirit. If you would like to have this service of prayer for yourself, or a family member, please feel free to make a request.
Grief Support Services
The Chaplains at Parkview offer bereavement support in the following ways:
- They provide informal grief counseling by telephone or office visit, and can help you locate a Christian counselor with special training in helping those who grieve.
- We provide grief education and support groups from a Christian perspective on a regular basis. We also can help you access other grief support available in our community.
- We have resource material helpful to those who have lost a loved one.
Please call us for more information about these services at 373-2251.
