Women's Rehabilitation
Urinary Incontinence Program
Urinary incontinence is an under reported condition that many women accept as a normal part of aging or childbearing. Fortunately, this condition can usually be successfully managed through conservative treatments such as physical therapy. Treatment includes kegel exercises, biofeedback, bladder retraining, and electrical stimulation
Gynecological Physical Therapy
The pelvic floor muscles form a sling from the pubic bone to the coccyx and have three important functions: supportive, sphinteric and sexual. Pelvic floor dysfunction may be caused by muscle, nerve, soft tissue or joint malalignment. Symptoms may include pain in the lower back, vagina, coccyx, lower abdomen and/or hips, incontinence, organ prolapse and painful intercourse. Treatments include relaxation training, soft tissue mobilization and/or spinal/pelvic malalignment corrections, biofeedback and postural education.
Obstetrical Physical Therapy
Physical therapists are able to assess and treat much of the pain and discomfort associated with pregnancy. Treatment includes, strengthening and stretching exercises, education in proper body mechanics, correction of sacroiliac joint malalignment, soft tissue mobilization and relaxation training.
Pre/Post Operative Physical Therapy
Physical therapy can address the wide range of discomforts associated with delivery, mastectomy and gynecological procedures. Gynecological procedures that physical therapy can treat include episiotomy, hysterectomy, bladder suspension, abdominal/vaginal surgery and mastectomy.
